When Unwound came to NY to play with Bikini Kill and Nation of Ulysses at a CBGB Sunday matinee in the fall of 1991 there was almost no one watching them. I think they may have gone straight from line check (making sure that all of the instruments were in the PA) to show without getting off stage. Chris and I saw that no one was there so we went right up front and did some dancing. The lack of crowd gave me kind of a private photo shoot, and they played as if it was packed- something we really respected and we stayed put for the whole show. We really dug them, but I didn't even catch their name. Years later I saw the images on a negative and tried printing them when I started to put together my unpublished book "Lost". Even then I wasn't sure who it was. Later I realized it was Unwound. They'd become a favorite band and Suki was psyched to find a place for their song in Half-Ccocked.
