ARTIST STATEMENT
In the #merging #nightdrives series, I explore the evening landscape from a moving vehicle. I aim to capture the ephemeral lights of a world I am only passing through. Shooting through car windows allows for the exploration of the world while simultaneously creating physical isolation from the confines of a machine.
As with the lights experienced during night drives, I am also drawn to the consistent flow and fading glow of social media. Embracing hyperreality, carefully curated social media profiles display distorted windows into our lives. My process is intentionally limited to camera apps and social media filters as tools of distortion much in the same way that social media misrepresents our lives by creating a manufactured window on reality. The resulting physical print of my work on gallery walls subverts the intention of images created for a digital world.
